Water consumption

In this step, you determine how the water consumption should be distributed among the individual units.

If there is a water meter for each unit and all meter readings have been recorded for the billing period, consumption can be calculated exactly according to the respective meter readings. The costs incurred are then distributed according to the actual consumption of the individual units.

If, on the other hand, there is no water meter for at least one unit or at least one meter reading has not been read, a complete consumption determination is not possible. In this case, choose the distribution by square meters and prorated time. The costs incurred are then distributed among the units based on the living space and the respective periods of use.

Legal background: Operating costs are generally distributed according to living space, unless otherwise agreed. If consumption is recorded, a benchmark should be used that takes into account the different consumption. According to case law, however, there is no obligation to pay a consumption-based levy as long as not all apartments are equipped with water meters.
