# Properties

Under the "Properties" menu item you will find a central overview of your properties and can create new properties and units.

* You can create both properties (the entire building) and units (the apartments within it that are to be let).
* In Immodio a property always denotes the entire building, for example an apartment building or a detached house.
* To create a unit, a parent property always has to be created first. The unit is the lettable space within it, for example an apartment, a flat or a commercial unit, which can later be assigned to a tenancy.

This principle also applies to a detached house: first create the property as the building and then the unit to be let within that property.

### Property

A **property** always represents the entire building, for example:

* An entire apartment building
* An entire detached house

The property serves as the overarching structure and holds all basic information about the property as a whole. The address of the property is also stored in the property. You can find detailed guides on the following subpages:

### Unit

A **unit** is a single, lettable unit within a property, for example:

* Individual apartments in an apartment building
* Living space in a detached house
* A granny flat in a two-family house

### Comments and linked tasks

In the detail view of a property or unit you can document internal information chronologically in the "Comments" tab.

In the "Links" tab you see tasks that are connected to the property or unit concerned. This takes you directly from the property record to the associated task.

   * First create the parent property under Properties (for example an apartment building)
   * Enter all the relevant data about the property and save it.
2. **Create the unit(s)**
   * Select the property you have already created and create a new unit using "+ Create unit".

* Details such as features that you have already entered for the property are passed on to all units automatically.
* Shared information such as basic data or features that apply to an entire property therefore only has to be recorded once.
