# Meters and meter readings

Choose **"Meters and meter readings"** if a suitable meter for heating consumption **and** a meter for hot water consumption is installed in **every** unit and you have the respective meter readings.

Confirm your entry by clicking **"Continue"** so that you can enter the respective consumption figures on the next page.

### Total consumption

In the first step you enter the **total water consumption**. To do so, click **"Enter consumption"** in the **"Total consumption"** area.

This means the hot water consumption of the **entire building**.

You can now choose whether the heating and the hot water are heated by **two separate systems** (for example with central heating where electric instantaneous water heaters are installed in the individual units to heat the hot water) or whether the heating and the hot water are heated by **the same system**.

### Calibration of the meters

Where billing is based on meter readings, the meters generally have to be usable under calibration law. Under Section 37 of the German Measurement and Calibration Act, measuring devices may not be used uncalibrated once the calibration period has expired.

For water meters the calibration period is generally 6 years under Section 34 of the German Measurement and Calibration Ordinance in conjunction with Annex 7 of that ordinance.
