Where "Heating and hot water statement not required" is selected, entries in the heating and hot water costs category do not have to be recorded.
{% endhint %}

**When is a heating and hot water cost statement not required?**

A separate consumption-based heating and hot water cost statement is not required where the Heating Costs Ordinance does not apply to the property or where a statutory exception applies. This affects in particular:

* apartments with their own heating or hot water system, where the users settle their energy costs directly with the provider,
* buildings with no more than two apartments, one of which is occupied by the landlord themselves, provided a different form of billing was agreed contractually,
* buildings with a heating demand of less than 15 kWh/(m²·year),
* cases in which recording consumption is technically impossible or economically disproportionate,
* certain residential, care, student or apprentice homes, and
* special cases approved by the authorities and certain buildings supplied predominantly by solar energy, waste heat or heat recovery.

{% hint style="warning" %}
*If in doubt, the specific contractual and supply situation should be reviewed from a legal perspective.*
