# Changes to permissions

## 1. Changing a user's role

**Change role** lets you assign a different role to a user. The new role then determines which areas the user may view, create, edit or delete.

A role can be changed through the action menu (see the red arrow in the image).

1. Open **Settings** > **User management**.
2. Open the action menu for the user concerned.
3. Select **Change role**.
4. Select the new role.
5. Check the permissions overview.
6. Save the change.

For the changes to the permissions to take effect, the user has to log out and log in again once.

## 2. Deactivating a user

Deactivate a user when the person is temporarily to have no further access to Immodio but is not to be deleted. This makes sense when roles change, during longer absences, or when you want to stop access immediately.

A user can be deactivated through the action menu (see the red arrow in the image).

1. Open **Settings** > **User management**.
2. Open the action menu for the active user.
3. Select **Deactivate role**.
4. Confirm the action.

A deactivated user can no longer access the associated functions.

The deactivation of the permissions only takes effect once the user logs out. Alternatively the user is logged out and deactivated automatically the next time the browser reloads.

A deactivated user can be reactivated by the administrator at any time using the same steps.

## 3. Deleting a user

If a user is to be removed permanently, you can mark them for deletion. A user can be deleted through the action menu (see the red arrow in the image).

1. Open **Settings** > **User management**.
2. Open the action menu for the user.
3. Select **Delete user**.
4. Confirm the deletion.

The user is deleted after 14 days. If the deletion is to be undone within this 14-day period, you have to contact Immodio support at **<kundenservice@immodio.app>**.

If you only want to stop access immediately, deactivate the user first. Marking for deletion is intended for permanent removal and **cannot** be undone once the 14-day period has expired.
