# Exporting a defect as a PDF

The PDF export lets you download the documentation of an individual defect and pass it on outside Immodio, for example to an external service provider, or file it. The export is started directly from the defect you are editing.

{% hint style="info" %}
The export is available for defects that have already been created. If you are currently recording a new defect, save it first or use the export only after it has been created.
{% endhint %}

### Open the defect

1. Open the **"Properties"** area.
2. Open the property or unit you want and switch to the **"Defects"** tab. Alternatively, under **Properties** you can use **"Show defects"** to switch to the central defect overview.
3. Click the defect you want to export.

### Start the PDF export

1. In the defect, click **"Export"**.

2. The **"Export comments as well?"** dialog opens.
3. Choose **"With comments"** if all comments recorded in the defect are to be included in the PDF file.
4. Choose **"Without comments"** if only the defect information and images are to be exported, without the comments recorded.

{% hint style="info" %}
All changes to this defect are saved before the export. Immodio then creates the PDF file and downloads it.
{% endhint %}

### Content of the PDF file

The PDF file contains structured documentation of the defect. Depending on the data stored, the following information is output, among other things:

* the location of the defect (whether in the property or the unit)
* the address of the property
* relevant contacts, for example the owner, property management company, separate-property management company or current tenant
* the defect type
* the condition
* details of the defect
* the party responsible
* who reported it
* the person responsible for remedying it
* photos of the defect
* comments, if you selected these during the export

### After the export

Once the export is successful, the message **"Defect export downloaded."** appears. The file is saved as a PDF and its file name contains the export date, the time, the defect type and the property or unit context.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If the export cannot be downloaded, check whether your browser allows downloads and start the export again.
