The terms "furnished apartment" and "partly furnished apartment" are not precisely defined in law. What is meant, however, is the fitting out of the rented apartment with furnishings by the landlord.

* [**Furnished living space**](/en/anleitung/mietverhaltnisse/mietverhaltnis-anlegen/moblierung.md) is generally taken to exist where the landlord provides more than half of the furnishings needed for everyday life. What is decisive is that the furnishing was agreed in the rental agreement, not merely that furniture is actually present.
* A [**partly furnished apartment**](/en/anleitung/mietverhaltnisse/mietverhaltnis-anlegen/moblierung/teilmoblierter-wohnraum.md) exists where only some furniture or furnishings are provided, but these do not make up the majority (generally half) of the equipment needed to run a household. Examples are a fitted kitchen, cupboards or a sofa.
